Deepavali crackers

Buy for two sessions. For the morning, garlands and single sound crackers. For the evening, plenty of sparklers and flower pots for the children, chakkars for the courtyard, and one or two repeater cakes kept for the very end. Most families under-buy sparklers and over-buy sound, so start the other way around.
Sankranti crackers
14 and 15 January every year
Buy a broad, cheerful spread rather than a few expensive items: plenty of small novelties and chakkars for the children, garlands for the Bhogi morning, and a couple of bigger items for the last evening. Quantity matters more than spectacle over three days.
Ugadi crackers
The Telugu and Kannada new year, in March or April
A small order goes a long way here. One garland for the morning, a few boxes of sparklers, and a couple of fountains or chakkars for the evening is a complete Ugadi for most families.
