Bursting crackers in Bengaluru: the 2026 rules
Deepavali falls on 8 November 2026. Here is what is actually permitted in Bengaluru and the rest of Karnataka, and where to check before you buy.
This page is a summary, not the law. The bursting window and the permitted items are re-notified every season by the state government, the police and the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board, and they can differ by district. Check the current 2026 notification before Deepavali.
The two-hour window
Bursting in Karnataka is normally notified for 8:00 to 10:00 PM on Deepavali. Outside those hours it is an offence, including on the days either side of Deepavali.
Green crackers only
Karnataka permits certified green crackers alone. Look for the CSIR-NEERI green logo and the QR code printed on the box, and keep the box until you have burst everything in it.
Silence zones
No bursting within 100 metres of a hospital, school, court or religious institution, at any hour. Much of central Bengaluru sits inside one.
Your apartment association
Most complexes set their own rule on top of the city's: one designated open area, a fixed hour, or no bursting in common areas at all. Ask first.
What to buy if you are in an apartment

What time can I burst crackers in Bengaluru for Deepavali 2026?
The Supreme Court's standing direction limits bursting to two hours on Deepavali, and in Karnataka that window is normally notified as 8:00 to 10:00 PM on Deepavali. The exact hours are re-notified by the state each year, so confirm the 2026 notification before Deepavali on 8 November 2026.
Are only green crackers allowed in Bengaluru?
Yes. Karnataka has permitted the sale and use of certified green crackers only for several seasons now, following the Supreme Court's orders. A green cracker carries a CSIR-NEERI green logo and a QR code on the box. Every box on this site that we mark as green carries that certification.
Can I burst crackers on my apartment terrace or in the common area?
That is not decided by the city at all, it is decided by your association. Most Bengaluru apartment complexes either designate one open area and a fixed time, or prohibit bursting in common areas entirely. Ask your association before you buy, not after.
What is a silence zone?
An area within 100 metres of a hospital, nursing home, school, court or religious institution. No bursting is permitted there at any hour. A great deal of central Bengaluru falls inside one of these without it being signposted, so look around you.
What happens if I burst outside the permitted window?
It is an offence under the Environment (Protection) Act and the Noise Pollution Rules, and Bengaluru City Police do act on complaints during Deepavali. Can I carry crackers on the Namma Metro or in a cab?
No. Fireworks are classed as explosives and may not be carried on Namma Metro, on buses, or by ordinary courier. That is also why your order arrives by registered road transport rather than a parcel service.
